Feb 13, 2014 · The syringe filters don't work for the same reason a small piece of synthetic filter disc won't work. If you get a sheet of thick felt and cut it in small squares, it will filter the air fine and provide all the gas exchange you need.
May 19, 2011 · A double layer of tyvek, 1 layer of foil, then a jar band. After PC'ing the jars, remove the layer of foil. Innoculate directly through the tyvek, then cover the hole with a wide piece of packing tape. If your grain appears to be too damp, remove the tape. Easy as pie!

It tends to get microscopic tears when you need to move air through the filter (ie, aspirating LC into a syringe). For gtains, it's gonna get wet too easily. I've never had more fucking contam issues than with shitty micropore tape filters. Just take the extra $5 and hour of time and make a tyvek filter.
