Jan 06, 2010 · The short and skinny of it is that using Whatman type syringe filters on your grain jars will signifacantly slow them down, and if large enough, it seems will stall them. I'm still not 100% on if I'm going to get a complete stall or not, but it wouldn't surprise me.

If you were to use a Syringe filter to inoculate, you would likely filter out much of the mycelium and block up the port but also introduce a good avenue for contamination to ‘wick’ through if that makes sense.
